23 NovMaking Small Business Saturday Green!
The day after the day after Thanksgiving (Turkey Coma day in my house) is widely being promoted as Small Business Saturday, the local community’s answer to the (what’s become) annual day after Thanksgiving kick-off to the holiday shopping season, aka “Black Friday.” Local newspapers, magazines, blogs, TV news, heck even Starbuck’s are doing their best to encourage all of us to patronize local businesses. Regardless of the motives for the recommendations, it’s an effort worth applauding.
So, for all of you (sorry, I gotta say it) crazy people who are getting up at the crack of dawn Friday to buy tube socks and Legos at your neighborhood box store, sleep in Saturday, grab a cuppa, and head to your local independent bookstore, toy store, boutique, or gift shop to do the same. There are great deals to be had, and as a bonus, you’re actually helping your neighbors. A win-win if ever there was.
